My Chinese Visa Has Arrived

Dear Traders,

The last few days I have been seeing some old friends in Nepal and shopping for my mountain equipment. I love going to the local shops here. The quality of their products is high and the prices are so low. You can even get your own branded gear because everything is custom made and they can tailor it to what you need.

My Chinese visa to enter Tibet has been approved, and yesterday we picked up our passports.

The team headed out to the border and we began our journey towards the base camp of Cho Oyou (6th highest peak in the world at 8,188 meters, 26,864 feet). Cho Oyou is part of the Himalayas, on the border between Nepal and Tibet.

On my way from Nepal to the border of China.

Since the base camp is sitting at around 5,600 meters (about 18,373 feet) -roughly the same altitude as Everest base camp- we’ll take it slow. You can’t just head straight there without acclimatizing, or you’ll risk getting sick. So, for about a week, we’ll be exploring Tibet, doing some hikes, and gradually getting used to the altitude.

For this expedition, I’m climbing with a great Nepalese company called Climbalaya, and my climbing Sherpa, Gyalzen. I’m excited to spend almost a month with them-they really make it feel like a family.

I hope to have internet access for most of the time, but once we reach the advanced base camp, we might be offline from the grid and switch over to satellite messaging.

You can even send me messages through that link! I’d love to hear from you, and although I might not reply immediately, I’ll get back to you whenever I have my coverage and some downtime.

Some team members and I enjoyed each other’s company before heading to the mountains.

What a week on the market! Tuesday brought the highly anticipated Trump-Harris debate, with some Republican donors and Trump advisers feeling Harris came out on top, as Trump struggled to stay on message. One surprising moment was Trump’s claim that Ohio immigrants abduct and eat pets, making headlines everywhere. After the debate, Trump said he will not debate Kamala Harris again, stating, “There will be no third debate.”

On Wednesday, August’s PPI inflation data came in lower than expected, dropping to 1.7% (vs. 1.8% expected). Core PPI stayed flat at 2.4%, below expectations of 2.5%. Inflation is now at its lowest level since February 2024.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 surged, adding $1.8 trillion in market cap this week. $NVDA shot up over 15%, pushing the S&P 500 to within 1% of an all-time high. Gold also hit another record, even though markets no longer expect a 50 basis point rate cut.

Next week, all eyes will be on the FOMC’s interest rate decision on Wednesday. Yesterday, the odds of a 50 basis point rate cut dropped to just 5%, but today they jumped back to 34%. This huge shift happened with no major news, so brace yourselves—next week is going to be wild!

These are some amazing opportunities to trade and make profits. I even took a few trades from Nepal with my remote station and made almost 20% return last week.
